Living across the street from a park as a child allowed me to spend most of by days active. It would be a normal weekend to be kicked out of the house at 8 am and not come back in unless to eat. Participating in sandlot baseball, football, and basketball was my video games of today’s youth. I was also involved in many organized sports and continued throughout high school, even holding some records.
Although I didn’t play college sports, I still felt that athletics was in my blood. Unfortunately, there was nothing available except for the Rec Center and your typical Globo gym. Parties seemed to have my attention and soon became out of shape and fat.
I needed to be a part of something bigger than my gut. So, I Joined the United States Marine Corps. The Corp gave me back that discipline, drive, and honor I had as an athlete but now I could carry a gun.
After 8 honorable years in the reserve and 2 years in an active warzone, I holstered my weapon and pursued a career in commercial diving. Now I work offshore much of the year on boats, oil platforms and in a room no bigger than your typical living room. This requirs me to be very creative with my workouts. My first CrossFit workout was a huge mix of box jumps, kettlebell swings and the kitchen sink at my brother’s Affiliate (CrossFit Effingham) in my home town. It was to be timed and the workout wasn’t over until I finished the last rep. No big deal right? Holy mother! I immediately started looking for a place to train near home. When I walked into UPSHOT and met Coach Lee and Coach Michael, I knew I had found a home where I can continue to work on some superhero skills. Every member at UPSHOT has a story. I am grateful and humbled to be a part of it after walking through the doors.

Heather was drawn to CrossFit, Upshot in particular, because of the variety of the workouts and the family-friendly atmosphere. "I get bored easily with routine, which is why I fell in love with CrossFit, There is always something to practice and something to improve. It's so awesome getting to see how far you've come - being your own biggest competitor and learning to do really cool-looking lifts!"
Heather loves helping others, not only inside the gym but outside of it. She believes it's super important to have a balances and healthy lifestyle-physically, mentally and spiritually. In her spare time, she enjoys being involved in her church, hanging with family and friends, and being outdoors!

She is a certified Level One coach as well as CrossFit Kids certified.
Ashley moved to Walker with her husband and two daughters in Sept 2016 from Juneau, Alaska. She works part time as a barista at CC's Coffee House. When she's not at the gym, she is busy leading her youngest's Girl Scout troop, helping foster dogs for the Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue, running 5ks, or trying to catch up on sleep
Fitness started in my backyard shed working out with my older brother. Backyard workouts led to high school football and we continued those workouts before practice. When I graduated in 2005 I continued to workout in regular local gyms never achieving the results I was looking for.
After months and months of begging, my fiancé Laci finally convinced me to check out Crossfit Upshot in February 2015. All I remember about my first CrossFit workout is it involved kettle bell swings and it literally took me to my knees several times and I held onto a rope for dear life to keep me standing. I couldn't leave that kind of last impression, so I went back the next day. Same thing happened. That's when I realized I wasn't in the shape I thought I was in. Joined that second day and have been hooked ever since.
CrossFit has completely changed my lifestyle. I started eating better and truly learned what being "fit" means and feels like. Day 1 I weighed around 210lbs and leaned out to around 185lbs. Results that I was always looking for finally started to show.
April 2016 I received my Level 1 Trained certificate and started coaching. Don't have a favorite workout. I enjoy them all!
Kelly is a native of Anacoco, Louisiana but has called Baton Rouge/Denham Springs home since 1996. Having been active and worked out mostly at the glybo gym environment walking into a Crossfit Box feel and experience is extremely different.
She is a wife and mother to three busy kids ranging in ages from 13-8. Managing a busy home, work and kids schedules and still finding time to work out is all to familure to her but proves it is possible. Although, introduced to Crossfit in 2010 it was 2015 when she obtained her Crossfit Level One Certification. It was really then that her love for the sport really grew and she has enjoyed being a part of this amazing team of coaches. Among many of the reasons she enjoys coaching, one specifically, is how much she enjoys seeing that feeling of accomplishment when a new skill is developed and expectations of one’s self is surpassed. She truly believes that there is nothing quite like Crossfit and the feeling it brings.
